Smoothie King is a smoothie food retailer that caters blended fruit-based drinks. First opening in 1973 as a stand-alone vitamin shop in Kenner, Louisiana, Smoothie King now encompasses over 600 locations.

Fern Carty Dawkins
Fern Carty Dawkins formed JM Carty Holdings, LLC after being inspired by other women and minority entrepreneurs who channeled their passion through franchise and other business opportunities.
Fern earned her Bachelor’s degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA and her Juris Doctorate from the University Of Arkansas School Of Law in Fayetteville, AR. Her interest in healthcare began with her undergraduate studies, and shaped her legal career. It naturally followed that her business endeavors would be centered on wellness. Prior to forming JM Carty Holdings, Mrs. Dawkins was Counsel for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in the Walmart US Legal Division. There she practiced healthcare law with the Health & Wellness legal team supporting Walmart’s pharmacies, clinics and vision centers. She was responsible for business innovations, merchandising and other transactional matters with a primary focus on third-party contracts with pharmacy benefit management companies.
Aside from her business ventures, Fern is active in the community and spends many volunteer hours with non-profit organizations committed to the health and wellness of women and children. It is important to her that JM Carty Holdings be an integral part of the community, and focuses on business opportunities that add value to the neighborhoods in which her franchises operate. Paramount to its business endeavors, JM Carty Holdings, like its founder, is also dedicated to being a responsible community partner, placing emphasis on giving back to the patrons it serves.
